School Updates

Recognizing Diwali

To all members of our school community who celebrated Diwali this past week, we wish you and your families happiness and joy. Thank you for sharing your traditions and helping make our school community stronger and more vibrant.

Celebrate

Congratulations to our Junior and Senior Girls Volleyball teams, who competed hard throughout the season and represented Nelson Mandela High School with pride. While both teams were eliminated in the quarter-finals this week, their dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship were exceptional.

Congratulations also goes out to our Dance Empire team who competed against 12 other High Schools in a Hip-Hop dance competition. The team represented the school with pride and performed well amongst some outstanding competition,

Best of luck to our Junior Boys Volleyball team as they travel to Lord Beaverbrook for their semi-final on November 9, and to our Senior Boys Volleyball team as they take on St. Martin de Porres in their semi-final on November 10. The entire school community is cheering you on and wishing you continued success.

Parking Reminder

Over the past several weeks, administration has been called to the parking lot to address a number of concerns.

Students are reminded that the parking lot is not a gathering space during instructional time. Students who are found in the parking lot instead of attending class will be marked absent and may be asked to return home for the remainder of the day.

Students who drive to school must ensure they have purchased a valid parking pass through the Business Office. The Calgary Parking Authority may conduct patrols throughout the year, and vehicles without a valid parking pass may be subject to ticketing.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and respectful environment for all students.

Student Dress Expectations

As the weather gets colder, we understand that many students choose to wear hats, toques, and hoods to stay warm. We continue to take a flexible and practical approach to these items and recognize that students may wear them throughout the school day.

However, students will be asked to remove balaclavas from their heads while in the school. Maintaining a safe and welcoming learning environment requires that students be readily identifiable by staff and peers. Balaclavas may be worn outdoors for warmth, but they should be removed or worn around the neck when entering the building.

Student Safety

Please help us keep our students safe by using the designated crosswalks when crossing Saddletowne Circle. Jaywalking has resulted in several close calls, and the Calgary Police Service will be increasing enforcement in the area. We appreciate everyone's cooperation in ensuring a safe arrival and departure from school.

Annual School Forms

School forms must be updated annually to ensure we have the most current information for your child.

Students with medical and consent alerts will receive packages through their homeroom teacher that must be completed and returned to the main office.

Annual consent and demographic forms can continue to be submitted online through the parent portal in SchoolEngage.
